A version of the Babble program that
can answer TV listing questions is now available online.
The website, http://babble.trace.wisc.edu/ was
developed in conjunction with the UW Trace Center as part
of an NSF grant to explore using Tridbits as a natural
language interface to household devices. This experimental
site reads in TV listing information for selected channels
in the Madison Wisconsin viewing area, allowing it to
respond to questions like "What news is on today?"
The Trace Center has also developed an instant messaging
interface to the Babble TV Listing server. Using this interface,
you can send Babble a
question from your cell phone. Babble responds by calling
you back with the answer.
The Babble TV Listing agent was demonstrated at the 2006
Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas using both the web
and cell phone interfaces. The Trace Center and other
Universal Remote Console (URC) Consortium members hosted
private
demonstrations and discussions to promote URC standards.
